How Children’s Brains Work

At Wasatch Pediatric Neuropsychology, we specialize in understanding how children’s brains work and how that affects their learning, behavior, and emotions.

3

Understanding Through Comprehensive Data Collection

During an evaluation, we gather information from multiple sources to build a thorough understanding of a person’s abilities, behavior, and daily functioning. This includes interviews with people who know them well, questionnaires, observations, and standardized testing. By carefully collecting and analyzing data, we identify patterns, clarify key skills and support needs, and translate findings into informed guidance for support and growth.

Seeing The Full Picture Of Development

Development is shaped by many interacting factors that do not always follow typical patterns. Differences in thinking, communication, behavior, and emotional regulation often influence one another, and children may experience multiple overlapping challenges that make it difficult to see the full picture. Because development also changes over time and across environments like home and school, clarifying these patterns and providing a clearer understanding of a person’s strengths and needs is important for everyone involved.

What People Are Saying

Meeting with our doctor and doing the testing helped us understand in a deeper way how our child’s brain works and what tools might be helpful for our child and family. Her demeanor and persona put our child at ease right away. The time she took to collaborate with us when relaying the results was supportive and valuable.
-Parents of 11 yo
Because of her injury, our child has multiple difficulties, and for the first time we felt that someone truly understood the whole picture. Our doctor was patient and flexible in making the testing fit our daughter’s abilities, which helped them work well together to get it done. She took the time to talk with many other providers and visit her school to really understand all the parts. As parents, we finally understand challenges that had felt overwhelming for years. We communicate better with her therapists and school, and the doctor even helped them understand our daughter’s unique special needs. She is finally progressing, and we are so happy to have that direction.
-Mother of 5 yo
I appreciate these evaluations that give me important clarity on my patient’s multifaceted issues. They give me the ability to make informed decisions about care, collaborate with family support their child effectively throughout development.
-Pediatrician
Her careful attention to detail uncovered insights that were so helpful in understanding our son’s needs. She guided our family with compassion and offered recommendations that made a meaningful difference in supporting his mental health and development. It was clear that she is both highly knowledgeable and genuinely dedicated to helping the families she works with, and we are truly grateful for her guidance and support.
-Parent of 9 yo
Rather than only being confused and frustrated, our doctor taught us how our daughter’s multiple disabilities play a role in her unique needs that can be managed as she transitions to adulthood. Our family feels empowered to help her pursue what she wants in the next step in her life, and ours.
-Father of 18 yo
I find neuropsych testing extremely helpful in better understanding the cognitive underpinnings of behavior and emotions. Insight into cognitive issues that impact academic learning and executive function helps to better understand challenges in mastering developmental tasks. With this information, there are effective behavioral and medication management plans that allow children to gain greater success and mastery. As they develop mastery, the issues no longer define them or how they connect with others
